PROJECTS
Project work and planning are already underway for improvements to the corridor as a result of the NCCMAC effort. Curve straightening, rockfall mitigation, and resurfacing work has already been done in select areas and more projects are in the final stages of design. Look for the following improvements as funds become available:
• Main Street South (TIGER Eligible)
- SH 119 MP 4.9 to 6.3
- Road Widening and Curve Straightening
- Bikeway with Historic Interpretive Signing and Displays
- Site work for Mine Drainage Cleanup
- Creek Bed Improvements
- Traction Sand Capture Structures
• Douglas Mountain Turn Lanes (Tiger Eligible)
- Provide better access and safety for local residents
• Pipeline for Mine Drainage (CDHPE and EPA)
- Convey polluted mine waste directly to the planned treatment plant
• Mine Drainage Treatment Facility (CDHPE and EPA)
- Treat polluted water from abandoned mines
• SH 119 Overlay and Safety Improvements (Tiger Eligible)
- Mile Post 0.0 to 4.9
- Resurfacing and safety improvements
• Wildlife Crossing (Tiger Eligible)
- Overpass for bighorn sheep to cross SH 119 safely without impacting traffic
• US 6 and SH 119 ITS Improvements (Tiger Eligible)
- Fiber Optic and Electric service to the canyons
- Variable message signs, emergency call boxes
- Traffic monitoring cameras, weather stations
- Partnership potential for cell phone coverage
• US 6 Rockfall Mitigation (Tiger Eligible)
- Scaling, containment and stabilization
• US 6 and SH 119 Rockfall Monitoring (Tiger Eligible)
- Instrumentation to detect high risk rockfall locations
• US 6 Overlay and Safety Improvements (Tiger Eligible)
- Mile Post 257 to 260
• US 40 & US 6 Bridge Widening (Tiger Eligible)
- Resolve existing curvature issue that is causing turning trucks to repeatedly damage the
bridge over Clear Creek
• US 40 Overlay and Safety Improvements (Tiger Eligible)
- From I-70 at Beaverbrook to Junction of US 6
